If the system's sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of you, a warning flashes and an audible alert sounds. ALso, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake. If you do not take corrective action and a collision is imminent, the brakes can automatically apply.

Compact crossover SUVs aren't appealing only for their spaciousness; it's their sedan-like handling that makes them fun to drive. The 2020 Ford Escape offers that and more, thanks to this year's redesign. In addition to 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space (65.4 if you fold down the rear seats) and hybrid variants, the Escape provides sporty handling for an enjoyable driving experience. Of the five trims available, three come standard with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and 190 lb.-ft. of torque. If that's not enough prowess, drivers can choose a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that packs more of a punch on the SEL and Titanium trims. Standard on the Titanium and optional on the SE Sport is a new hybrid engine based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and comes paired with a continuously-variable automatic transmission. A plug-in version of the Escape, called PHEV, is available in three trims, too. The entry-level trim, S, includes blind-spot monitoring, a six-speaker sound system, audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel, and a rearview camera for a comfortable cabin. SE enhances the experience with keyless ignition and entry, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the latest infotainment system available. SEL provides luxury with fog lights, sport seats, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, a hands-free liftgate, and remote start. Titanium takes the cake with turn signal mirrors, a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, adaptive cruise control, and automatic parking assist.
